It is my pleasure to welcome you to St John Paul II College. We are a co-educational, inclusive secondary school serving families in the north of Canberra.
At St John Paul II College we strive for excellence in teaching so that our students are offered every opportunity for success in their learning. In partnership with families, we aim to develop hope-filled, purposeful citizens who are committed to making a difference in the world. We do this through our carefully planned faith formation, spirituality, and social justice activities, and through classroom learning, pastoral care and wellbeing initiatives. We are blessed to have supportive and expert teaching and professional staff who nurture your child’s growth and learning. Our school is a place where all students are treated with respect and dignity.
Our College campus is strikingly modern and inviting, and we are fortunate to enjoy state-of-the-art facilities in which we learn and work. Although we are a young school, our students are happy, engaged and responsible. Our stunning results with our senior students at the end of Year 12 bear witness to the quality of the learning and teaching at the College. In 2023 45% of students studying a tertiary course achieved an ATAR above 80 and 23% of students achieved an ATAR above 90. Eleven percent of our 2023 class of Year 12 achieved an ATAR above 95. College Dux, Kian Cox achieved an ATAR of 99.0, followed closely behind by Georgia Ellison who received an ATAR of 98.5. Similarly, students who engaged in the Accredited Pathway have found themselves readily engaged in apprenticeships, traineeships and further study of their choice.
I encourage you to have a good look at our website, and if you are interested in enrolling your child in the future, please call our College Office on (02) 6163 4800 to arrange a College tour.
As the incoming Principal for St John Paul II College, I am honoured to be joining this wonderful young community. My aim is that we are the school of choice in the Gungahlin area for secondary students. We are a Catholic school in the spirit of St John Paul II. We therefore aim to be people of justice, peace, and courage.
I look forward to welcoming you to our school.
Dr Craig Wattam
Principal
Celebrating our 10-year anniversary just last year, St John Paul II College is a relatively new school in the Catholic Education community. What we do not have in history, we make up for in passion for a longstanding future. Being a new school gives us the privilege of building the traditions and values of justice, peace, and courage that will represent JPC in the many years to come. It is our hope as the 2024 College Captains, that we expand our warm presence throughout our broader community, creating long lasting relationships in the years to come.
St John Paul II College has a strong foundation built by the College's first Principal Mrs Catherine Rey. With much excitement for the future, new principal Dr Wattam and the 2024 leadership team will be working hand-in-hand to create a school environment that is unique and full of many opportunities for students to excel and grow as individuals. Being a young school St John Paul II College offers a wide range of state-of-the-art facilities that will allow for such opportunities.
The College invites with warm hearts all who walk through the doors and strive for inclusivity amongst the students and staff. We hope everyone has a wonderful year serving justice, living in peace, and pursuing every day with courage.
